Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival is held right before celebrating the annual Suwon Citizen's Day on October 10. The festival is held in Hwaseong (designated as the World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO) which is a city built on the filial piety of King Jeongjo, the 22nd King of the Joseon Dynasty.
There are various programs including the display of the lifestyles inside the royal palace and commoners, family-centered experience program and greeting ceremony paying tribute to King Jeongjo as well as delicious cuisines and exciting performances. Tourists from home and abroad visit Suwon every year to participate in the festival.

King Jeongjo's Royal Procession Participation Program aims to teach students about King Jeongjo's filial piety and people-oriented administration and to help them build moral character, and to better understand Suwon's history and to rediscover the importance of its value so as to build a brighter future.

·Route: Changdeokggung → Suwon Hwaseong → Yungneung (total distance: 62.2km)

Experience the re-enactment of a ritual (military ceremony & training) performed by the royal guards of King Jeongjo, the 22nd of the Joseon Dynasty. It is a unique tradition that can only be seen in Suwon.

"MUYE24KI" team demonstrates the 24 martial arts explained in the book "Muyedobotogji" which was compiled in 1790 by he practical scholars who were Lee Deok-mu, Park Je-ga and the martial arts master, Baek Dong-so under the command of King Jeongjo. The 24 martial arts consisted of not only Korean traditional martial arts but also superior martial arts of China and Japan.

Experience the reenactment of 'Nakseongyeon', a traditional performance to celebrate the 200th anniversary of King Jeongjo's construction of Hwaseong Fortress. Enjoy other traditional performances include court dance, Mudong-nori, Seoljangjo, Beonna (plate spinning) and rope walking.

It is a highlight of the Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival. The contest is a way to promote Suwon and its rich traditional culture to the world, to cement Suwon as a global tourism, and to encourage harmony among the 1.1 million citizens of Suwon.
