Hwaseong Fortress (Historic Site No. 3) in Suwon was built in 1796 by King Jeongjo, the 22nd kind of the Joseon Dynasty, to appease the soul of his deceased father. Bonding the traditional fortification function and the latest engineering plus architectural aesthetics, it is appreciated to be the masterpiece fortress in the world. Eight facilities were destroyed due to land developments and wars, and 41 facilities presently remain. The fortress wall is 5.7km long and has four main gates (north, south, east, west). Hwaseong Fortress was designated as a world cultural heritage by UNESCO in December 1997.

Banghwasuryujeong Yeonmudae

Jijidae Ridge lies on the border of Suwon and Uiwang. It was originally called Sageunhyeong and King Jeongjo passed here on the way to his father's tomb. Nosong Jidae (Old Pine Grove) stretches for 5km along the expressway and national roads. Mireukdang is located 800m from Jijidae Ridge. The stone of Buddha is made of granite and it is also called Mireuk Buddha which is worshipped by the locals.

Bongnyeongsa is a must-visit place. The temple provides a pleasant and quiet atmosphere to take leisurely walks. It also has the famous Buddhist Painting (Tangible Cultural Property No. 152 of Gyeonggi Province). It is important to remain quiet as there is a school where Buddhist monks study.
